Car Auctions
With the popularity of internet
giant e-bay, the auction process is becoming more and more
accepted as a way to sell. Buyers lover auctions because
they can sniff a bargain, sellers love auctions because once
a buyer makes a bid, even at a low price, they become
attached to the idea of buying, and often pay more than they
otherwise would. House auctions have also been a commonplace
sales method, but until recently car auctions were
considered to be off limits to the public. This is not true.

Regular car yards now have many cars for auction in various
forms from straight used car auctions to clear trade in
cars, through to online car auctions or tender auctions
(which are the same as regular car auctions but are
conducted over a longer time, basically allowing people to
place an offer on a car, with the auction being over when
the buyer accepts a bid). While these types of auctions are
now reasonably commonplace, there is still a mistaken public
understanding that the auctions that produce the real
bargains - government auto auctions, police car auctions and
repossessed car auction's are closed to public buyers. Card
yard owners are happy for you to believe this, but the truth
is that going to a repossessed car auction or a wholesale
auto auction can be a fantastic way to get a quality car at
a great price. In fact, buying from a wholesale auto auction
is one of the most common sources for the yard dealers to
get their cars themselves!
Another place to get a bargain can be a police car auction.
If you find our when and where a police car auction is being
held you can pick up good car at a great price. When you go
to these types of car auctions however, be aware that car
dealers know that they are basically a cheap car auction and
may be prepared to buy up all the cars, giving the private
buyer no look in.
For the classic motoring enthusiast, check your local club
for when there will be a classic car auction in your area.
You will usually find a collector car auction is one of the
best ways to break into the local classic car circuit and
you are far less likely to run into professional dealers at
these car auctions than at a dealers auto auction. The
sellers and other enthusiasts are also more likely to be
open and sincere with you at a classic car auction, as
buying a classic car is like joining a club.
One of the biggest differences between buying at auctions
and buying off a lot is that you once the hammer falls the
deal is finalized. it is a good idea to do your checks on a
car you are interested in before you go to the auction
itself. This is especially true of used car auctions and
seized car auctions, where the reasons for sale need to be
determined. Police car auctions and government auto auctions
are less likely to cause problems. If the dealer is
legitimate they are bound by certain laws when running a car
auto auction, but that is no reason for you to get lazy
about doing your due diligence.
